A reflection on MOOCs

Here are some things I learned as part of #moocmooc: (In no particular order)

1. I really do not know how to best negotiate a Google document where many hands are working simultaneously and I really need to work on that but in terms of reflection and practice.

2. I really agree with this statement: "We have an ethical responsibility as educators, as students, as people involved in the educative endeavor, to reflect" (Morris)

3. I am a perfectionist (well I already knew that) and in order to feel comfortable with my level of expectations from #moocmooc I needed to constantly reassess where to devote my time.

4. I can have time to participate in these types of courses (subjects) and I it can easily segue into the work I am already doing.

5. I will still have to wrestle with course/subject divide and #moocmooc demonstrated why that is (beyond that fact of the "c" in the title.

6. I am really good at keeping up with the important articles in the field and I have all of that to owe to my amazing Twitter followers. I have really created a great community there.

7. #moocmooc was a nice birthday present to myself and a nice way to take a break from grading exams.

8. It has been an excellent experience overall and I have connected with colleagues that I would never have met.

  1. I love that #moocmooc was a birthday present to yourself!

I too found that I had to curb my perfectionist, over-achieving tendencies. The daily deadlines helped. I was always racing to get my stuff posted to twitter.

  2. Yes sometimes it is really difficult to let go. It did feel like a bit of a race for me as well. But yes, it was a great experience! Thank you for visiting my blog!
